MEOSAR Knowledge Center

Beacon Owners

Whether you're on land, in the air or at sea, safety is everyone's responsibility. Learn about how the next generation MEOSAR satellite-based search and rescue (SAR) system will improve current operations as well as key features and benefits of this new system.

How Does MEOSAR Affect Your Device?

The new MEOSAR system is backwards compatible meaning it will work with the beacon you currently own. However, in order to experience all the features of the MEOSAR system you will need to upgrade your device to a next-generation beacon. These beacons are currently in development including Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) for marine, Electronic Locator Transmitters (ELTs) for aviation and Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) for outdoor enthusiasts. Sign up at the link below to receive the latest news on next-generation MEOSAR beacon availability.

Is Your Beacon Registered?

One of the first actions rescue authorities take when a distress alert is received is to check the beacon registration. The beacon registration provides rescue personnel critical information such as emergency contact names and numbers, trip information to verify your general location, the country of registration to verify the correct agencies are involved, and medical details to ensure the appropriate assets are deployed. Click the link below to verify your beacon registration is complete and add any updates to help search and rescue authorities in the event an emergency situation occurs.
